PreRamble: So, have you ever had the Universe lob one over the plate just begging you to take a swing?
Baseball metaphors are trite, but it’s summer and it’s baseball season (though the Twins may not be aware of that), and we’re just going to go with it …
… The ball leaves the pitchers hand … rotating slowly through the air … until it meets your bat, right at the sweet spot between preparation and opportunity … All you have to do is step forward and … Bam! Blast it out of the stadium! You hit the home run!
Aware or not, everybody has a stream of great opportunities coming into their zone all the time. The difference is, some see them and are ready to field them, and others don’t and aren’t.
At the risk of stating the obvious, the operative word here is “preparation.” The more prepared you are to meet opportunities, the more likely you are able to act on them in a way that will yield success.
You can’t predict which pitches are going to end up in your sweet spot, so, whether you’re a person, a business, or both, the best strategy you can use is to be prepared. Stand ready at the plate with a firm grip on your goals, capabilities and resources, so when opportunity sails into your strike zone you can take the swing.
The Take-Away: Call me about an Overview, and keep your eye on the ball.
Post-Note: As long as we’re working the baseball theme, may as well be steppin’ out in style …
